78 radio questions

Talked to a guy tonight that says he has a factory am/fm radio for a 84. He is going to send me some pix. He wasn't too clear but said it also had a tape deck.

I am missing my stock radio in my 78 blazer and for ten bucks i am going to buy it sight unseen. Have to drive 130 miles round trip but again 10 bucks.

The question I have is.....the radio is out of an 84 truck 8 track or cassette? Yes i was around in those days, 25 years old, but like they say if you can remember those days you weren't...........lol

So would a 78 and 84 year tape deck be.................? would the 84 look like what the 78 came with?

when I get pix I will post but I am hoping that they will be the same type of deck.

What was funny was him describing how it was mounted and how he took it out. Imagine posts with threads that have washers and nuts attaching the radio to the dash, so there were to holes on either side of a rectangular hole that the radio dial came thru and it had a row of push buttons to select the station..............all I was saying was really and thinking 10 bucks!

Thanks,
Steve

Re: 78 radio questions

More than likely cassette.
If the seller is willing, you don't have to drive 130mi. 10.00 for shipping seems a whole lot cheaper than the gas, unless seller has more cool stuff, then it would be worth the trip.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: 78 radio questions

wouldnt that be the large rectangle radio as opposed to the two know job? you should still be able to mount it as some of the burbs had radios like that towards the nineties

Re: 78 radio questions

If it is a shaft style radio, it will work. If you can get the wiring pigtails (just in case), that is even better. The 1 1/2 din (square) radios didn't make it to squares until 1989.
