when I try to turn on the fan on my heater nothing happens. I checked and im getting power to the wiring and the motor is getting hot, I dont know if its the blower motor, resistor or switch is bad, but something is not working. any advice?

Re: Heater fan trouble
well if the motor is getting hot and it is not blowing; quite indicative of a problem in the motor/blower area. perhaps you have a dead mouse jamming up the blower

Re: Heater fan trouble
Pull the motor out and see what is jamming it up. Like Ron said, it indicates something amiss at the blower.

Re: Heater fan trouble
what grounds the blower motor? I had taken the heaterbox out and repainted everything before this happened

Re: Heater fan trouble
it grounds through contact with the body -bolts and screws thru the firewall. the motor(heater)grounds to heater box thru contact and screws. sometimes paint interferes with that process.
you must be making a circuit if your motor is getting hot even though it isn't turning. have you dropped that motor out yet to see if there isn't a dead mouse jamming it out. then you can bench test your motor. this was the heater motor from my 1ton; wonder why it didn't work By rondavid at 2011-02-24 ron |

Re: Heater fan trouble
Wow what a mess! I took the heater completely apart and cleaned ,repainted it a while back. Im just now getting it back in the truck. there could be something stuck in there but I dont think thats the problem. you talked about bench testing the motor-could I just run a hot wire from my battery to see if the motor turns on? could it be the resistor? I also converted from a 1960-63 dash mounted switch to a newer 1964-66 pull style switch. The wiring looked exactly the same -so I dont think that should be a problem? thanks
