Re: what 5 speed is it

from what ive been told you have to find the 5 speed from the earlier s-10's that you can detach from the bellhousing. could be wrong tho

Re: what 5 speed is it

I'm not sure what the bell pattern on the I6 is, thought it was the same as a V8. The tranny in the pic is from a 4.3 v6 S10, bell pattern on the 4.3 is the same as a V8. I'm thinking it will bolt right up

Re: what 5 speed is it

I would call it the NV3500 from the one picture (kinda bad angle too)
does look like the correct bolt pattern.

Following info from:http://www.motivegear.com/tech_info/...nny_guide.html

NV3500

5 speed fully synchronized transmission with the bell housing integral to the aluminum case. There are four design levels of this unit. It started life in 1988 as an HM290 found in GM trucks, and was re-designated 5LM60 with early and late designs. Hm290 and 5LM60 units each have 4 shift rails. The unit was completely redesigned as a 3500 with a single shift rail. Due to all the design variations it is critical to positively identify which model trans you are working on in order to get the right parts. This unit is built in both 2 and 4WD versions. This series of transmissions requires some special tools for rebuilding. These transmissions are found in full size GM trucks from 1988 and up, S10 trucks from 1990 and up, and 1994 and up Dodge Dakota V8 Ram trucks.

Re: what 5 speed is it

That gearbox WILL bolt directly to any Chevy V8, or the 4.3 V6's, AND all the 194/230/250/292 I6 engines. WILL NOT bolt to the 216/235 inline 6's, though.

These gearboxes are not rated for horsepower, but for the torque of the engines they fit behind. The V6 transmissions don't have the torque strength for most small V8's, let alone hopped up ones. Depending on the weight of the truck, this trans MIGHT be OK for one of the smaller I6's, but, definitely NOT for a 292. Ratios differ from I4, V6 to V8 use as well, and that is what determines the torque level limit of the gearbox.

Re: what 5 speed is it

I think the NV3500 is rated around 330tq max. I read that somewhere.

Re: what 5 speed is it

The only thing you might watch out for is some NV3500's use a hydraulic slave cylinder that mounts inside the bellhousing....might make it a little more complicated to adapt.....otherwise should work, and as a bonus, the NV3500 is quite a bit stronger than the T5 too

Re: what 5 speed is it

Definately an NV3500. I have one in my 63 behind a 292 and it shifts great and haven't had any problems. its nice having a hydraulic clutch also. Not sure if they made them with internal slave cylinders but mine has an external slave that pushes the clutch fork.

here is the link to when i installed mine... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=407167
