Hood Storage
Is there a good easy way to hang my stock 72 hood on my wall to keep it out of harms way ?What do ya'll do with your extra parts that you want to hang on to ? I just hung a spare convertible top frame for my wifes chevelle on the wall in my shed but it was an easy task compared to that big bulky hood .My goal is to get the spare parts off my shop floor to give me more room and the reason Im not using the hood is Im going with a new cowl hood .Any tips or helpful hints are welcome .
Thanks John |

Re: Hood Storage
hang it from the rafters? I have all sorts of junk up in my rafterrs in my garage... fenders, bumpers, coolers, the 3rd seat to my burb might find its way up there soon.

Re: Hood Storage
I'll try to get some pics, but I used ladder hangers and set the bottom on them and a ratchet strap across the top to hold it against the wall. Here's a pic of what I used, but the ones I used were a little more heavy duty.

Re: Hood Storage
I got some slat wall real cheap when a hardware store closed and have the fenders and doors to my panel hanging on the wall. I dont have the room for the hood plus I feel like it is too heavy anyway to hang. Its all painted and ready to install (someday) so for now I have it leaning real close to the wall, off the floor sitting on several layers of cardboard and wrapped in a couple of blankets.
So if you have room to lean and wrap they dont take up a ton of room.

Re: Hood Storage
If yoiu have anything parked indoors through the winter,
you might want to pad the hood and store it on top the roof of that vehicle. I store two hoods in my shop leaning aginst the wall, nested and sitting on a couple 2x4 blocks. |

Re: Hood Storage
The rafters will not work for me as my shed doesnt have any but the wall hooks and strap idea will be perfect .My tractor parks in there where my hood needs to be stored and it cant go above the tractor as the roof is too low but I have plenty of wall space there. Thanks for all coments and ideas ,next will be hanging 2 extra tailgates .Any ideas on those would be helpful as well.
Thanks John |

Re: Hood Storage
Screw in two heavy duty hooks or eye screws as high as you can get them on the wall, about six feet apart. Then hook two tie down straps on them with the release button up top so you can pull down to raise it, and hook the other ends of the straps to the hood. You can now easily raise and lower the hood on the wall without any assistance just by pulling on the straps.

Re: Hood Storage
Its 2x4 construction with 3/8" sheeting. Made it simple 4'x 17' so that the joints were 8' on center and added a few cross members. I wanted to match the door width also. In the attic I laid some free steel from work across the rafters because It was pretty hard to find the center of them thru the finished ceiling. 8 threaded eye hooks, some chain and some link joiners and up she went. Also screwed the back of the shelf to the wall studs...Made a smaller version in my shed as well....Oh yea It took me and 3 buddies to lift that sucker up there..

Re: Hood Storage
I built one similar to this, too, in my sisters garage about 7-8 yrs ago. But its much larger as she has 10 foot ceilings and it spans the entire width if the garage(about 20 feet). I used 2x4's on 24" centers for joists, doubled in the front for strength and bolted to the ceiling in the middle using 2" angle iron or flat iron with pre drilled holes, and 5/8 particle board floor. Its about 8'x20' and has almost 24" height(I dont have the height in my garage to do it here). I built the entire thing by myself and it will easly support two people safely, we just use a ladder and climb up there. I'll get a pic of it the next time I go out there.

Re: Hood Storage
I just looked out in the garage that's attached to the house. About 8 inches of room between the garage door in the up position and the ceiling. Guess we could store pizza pans up there =)
