Inside Door Panel Screws HELP

Anyone have an easy way or a good way on how to get the Inside Door Panel Screws out of a rusty door? I have tried an impact hammer and penetrating fluid to no avail.

Re: Inside Door Panel Screws HELP

You may have to resort to welding a nut to the top of the screw so you can use a socket to get some leverage on it. We've had to do that MANY times on old rusty stuff.

Or use the "magic dust", as my dad likes to call it, Aerokroil. That stuff works amazingly well. It's expensive, but it works so well the cost is worth it.

Re: Inside Door Panel Screws HELP

the panel screws are a # 3 phillips, most high end screwdrivers ( snap on matco etc ) have a hex shank at the end of the blade next to the handle so you can put a wrench on it for leverage. I always put the screwdriver on the screw the give it a few medium blows to loosen it up and apply pressure inwards to hold the tool firmly into the screw and using the wrench give it a twist. Repeat giving it a few blows if necessary. Never had a screw I could remove using this technique. Be sure and use a #3 phillips, you would be suprised how must the right size screwdriver makes

Re: Inside Door Panel Screws HELP

Applying heat with a torch does wonders, although you will likeley damage the paint. I have used the number three phillips bit in a electric impact wrench with great success. You lean into it with all your weight so it can't spin out and bump the impact. Also have had luck with a plain old breaker bar instaed of the impact.

I don't think it is possible with only a screwdriver. Use neverseez when you put things bacl together.

Re: Inside Door Panel Screws HELP

I can vouch for Aerokroil mentioned by Crash'd above. Crazy expensive, I think I paid 14 bucks for a 10oz. can but It works better then any other penetrating oil I have ever used. It has never not worked for me.

Re: Inside Door Panel Screws HELP

I had to do this just this weekend, I used penetrating lube (giggle), a lot of my muscle, and some creative tapping and prying to break the bond between the panel and the screw. I was surprised, but they all came off the '62 and now my '61 is that much more complete. lol
