Going to 6 lugs

Hi Everyone, I have a question for you all.

What is involved in making a 5 lug system into a 6 lug. My nephew has 6 lug wheels and would like to put them on his truck. The truck is a 1987 2wd,350,shot 700r4. This is all around. He is talking about drilling holes in the 5 lug drums and front rotors to make it work. My concern is having them all line up right. If more information is needed please ask. Thanks

John

STILL Working on a frame up: 1987 Truck body on a 78 Blazer frame. Need cab blasted to start project. Got the cab BLASTED, Now Prep and Paint. Started to lay SOME BONDO and primer. Done, Ordering paint. Got paint, Stuff painted,Cab,Fenders, Hood more later. 9/7/2015 Got the clear coat on,now time to take one off. Started to put things back (What a nightmare) like the heating and AC stuff, inside wire harness, outside AC unit and booster, still more. May 2016, still working on the inside. Got duck work in,heating and AC. Radio (stock) in dash with after market in console later, Speaker are hooked up, Steering column is in. Getting ready to drop the cab onto the frame, Working on engine now since I have the room. Well here it is 2018, got the engine in and it runs, now I need to get the exhaust system in so I can adjust the lifters, to loud right now. Got the exhaust on now I am waiting for the break parts to come in.

Re: Going to 6 lugs

You could take your rotors, axels and drums to a machine shop and ask them to restud them for the 6 lug pattern. They'd be able to tell you if there's enough room and material to safely pull it off. I've seen it done from 6 to 5 lug, but never the opposite way, so I don't know if it's actually possible. The only real downfall to this is that you'd have to do it each time new rotors or drums are needed.

Re: Going to 6 lugs

Tell your nephew to sell the wheels and buy some 5 lug wheels to fit. Trying to convert to save money on wheels is going to be a life lesson that turns out bad.

Re: Going to 6 lugs

Thanks tubbedII and N2TRUX,
He check into the machine idea but did not want to spent $50..00 per piece.
That is why he wants to do it himself,SAVE THE BUCKS,ya know what i mean?
Never thought about the repeat drilling thing, wait till I tell him that one.

N2TRUX, I agree, But he got these wheels cheap and they LOOK nice he says.
I gave him this truck for nothing a few months back.Every time he calls he wants to do something to it. It is a 2 wd,Want to make it a 4wd,then keep it 2wd but change it to a 3 speed, put it on a NEWER BLAZER frame, IT JUST GETZ better and better each call.

Thanks again, John
