Engine block paint - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am building a 350 and I need to know what brand and/or type of paint to use to paint the block. I am going to leave the heads steel - for contrast. I used the "high heat" (crap) last time and it cooked off within the first ten minutes (and the smell was horrific). What are you guys using? Thanks.

The best I've found is from POR-15, it's a little on the pricey side but looks good and stays on.

Thanks, Yes it is, even on the exhaust manifolds.

I am fond of the VHT brand "new cast grey" engine paint.

Most larger parts houses should carry it....

Dupli-color # DE1651

The biggest issue is to get all grease and solvents off of the block / heads before any paint is applied, last motor I did never used primer on it, the rough casting holds the paint well. This was stainless steel equipment paint, still looks good today only a light color change to a little darker which I did`nt know would happen but actually looks better.

What brand is this paint, and where did you get it?

if the engine is not assembled yet you can powder coat the block and ceramic coat the exhaust. it looks amazing.
