Can I powdercoat aluminum heads?

I have had poor luck with clearcoating my aluminum heads and so was wondering about powdercoating them clear instead. Do I need high temperature powder? Also do I need to take the heads apart before I do it? Also will I mess up valve seals or anything taking them apart? Surely the heat of the oven would not warp them right? Don't they get hotter than this during combustion? Thanks for any help.

Re: Can I powdercoat aluminum heads?

Why are you looking at doing this? Aluminum corrodes real quick odds are this is the reason the clear coat did not stick. As i recall before something is powder coated it goes thru some sort of acid wash then a chemical coating is applied. Both are a bath process. I would recommend calling around to a few local shops and see what they recommend.

Re: Can I powdercoat aluminum heads?

I want them coated because gas and oil always seem to end up on heads and intake and it never cleans off the way that I want it to. And on a driver vehicle they look better in my opinion.

Re: Can I powdercoat aluminum heads?

isnt one of the points of having aluminum to release heat better seems to me powder coating would not help that but not sure though
