Question for lowering springs?
Hi all,
I was wanting to ask if there is a difference in the ride, if stock springs are cut compared to regular lowering springs? I have a '85 and I'm sure the original springs are on the truck, and would think they would be worn and wonder if they would be worth messing with. Thanks |

Re: Question for lowering springs?
Sure,... cutting the springs is FREE.
Normally a cut stock spring will add more spring rate since it's shorter. Use this formula: Cut 1/2 coil = 1" of drop.

Re: Question for lowering springs?
So the ride will not be worse than a lowering spring? If so that would save some money!
Thanks for the reply! |

Re: Question for lowering springs?
Cutting one coil will make the ride a bit firmer, but not stiff or harsh. It gives a stock suspension more of a sporty feel. What I have found will kill the ride quickly is stiff sidewalls on low profile performance tires.

Re: Question for lowering springs?
I was going to put 20's on it with 40 series tires. If it's better to get the lowering springs instead of cutting what I have, I could go that route. Not looking for a Cadillac ride but was hoping for a decent ride.

Re: Question for lowering springs?
it be nice if the manufactures of these lowering springs listed the springs rate..
or al least offered options.. a spring thats great for a small block is gonna blow chunks with poer brakes/stear/ac and a big block under the hood. |
