Any guesses on how bad it was hurt?

So i took the family to the light park and fan fuse melted down and water temps got VERY high. It was in the red for about 3-5 mins. Over 210 for 15 mins atleast. Drove 25 miles home and has no issues as of now. It is a LQ4. Who wants to guess what it damaged. No water in oil yet and runs like nothing ever happened.

I would bet you didn't do any damage. They make good horsepower at 210.

Re: Any guesses on how bad it was hurt?

I doubt you did any damage, the LS motors run normally at 210, I would say 240 and higher would be a bad thing though. change the fluids and repair the electrical damage and move on.

Re: Any guesses on how bad it was hurt?

I know 210 is ok. But it hit 250-260 area. Gauge was in the red for a few mins. I just remember the old motors would prob not survive that. On a side note it did ran really good today. Did 75-90 mph down hi way for a little while when getting christmass brisket from buddy at works house. It never got above 180. Installed new fuse holder and test ran fans are back to normal again.

Re: Any guesses on how bad it was hurt?

250? mmm maybe... maybe warped a head.. maybe.. doubt it..
ive had a gen 1 up to 240 a couple times survived fine..

if it's fine now i doubt you did any damage... i think the most common trait over heating aluminum heads is valve seats falling out but it still runs fine so that didnt happen.

Change the oil. Getting it hot can break down lubricating properties and it will not protect your engine if they did. Cheap insurance. I had an employee seize an engine in a vehicle that way this past summer.

As long as it wasn't your water pump that quit, you should be fine. As I mentioned, these engines start making good horsepower at 210, and many have been in your temp range pulling loads, etc. How old is your oil? Most oils have a tested viscoity protection above 300 degrees.

Re: Any guesses on how bad it was hurt?

I agree, change the oil. Cheap insurance and you can tell more by the oil.
Like the others said, as long as there isn't any coolant in it (or metal obviously ) your okay.

If you warped a head or blew a gasket even slightly, you'd start to see signs. Keep an eye on it for a few weeks, chances are it should be just fine. You can always run water wetter or purple ice type product to help keep temps down just incase.

Re: Any guesses on how bad it was hurt?

The oil is maybe 6-8 weeks old with under 500 miles on it. It was just the fuse that melted the pump is fine. It did not effect the oil psi at all. Even at 250ish still had 45 psi of oil. I will change it next week if i drive it.
