Reassembling the upper and lower a-arms.

Now i have been into cars my whole life, but never have i done a truck front end. So i'm not sure where to start, these are just set on there, i have all the shims, also i have a 69 manual, and my truck is a 72. I'm guessing they are the same other than the discs?

Here is where i'm at, and what i'm using. Am i to assume just torque the threaded ends to 160 FT LBS. It says to center the bushings in the arms, but i see know way to center it, as i can thread them completely in both sides.

Maybe i'm missing something, (wrong manual?) but they are the same as the ones i removed, and those were all loose, so i couldn't get a meausurement.

Thank for any help.

The cross shaft looks centered in the A-Arm to me in the pictures. I would thread in the bushings all the way and torque as per the spec.

No Moa, my manual showed essentially the same figure, but had a different reference point for a dimension. Other than that the directions were the same. Shims between the bar and crossmember for alignment. Might be worth a trip to an alignment shop and pick the mech's brain a little.

This is what mine looked like after I installed new cross shafts. This is the drivers side.

Re: Reassembling the upper and lower a-arms.

Looks like your missing the spacers. I put this back together the way it came apart I think. There should be the washers then the spacers and then shims. As far as the center of the cross shaft I just bottomed both bushing caps out.

Re: Reassembling the upper and lower a-arms.

One thing i did notice, just looking at jbice70gmc's picture, i think my arms are on the wrong side. I need to look at the other truck, i can't believe i'd be stupid enough to do that. Wait, ya i probably am. I never thought to mark them.
I do have all hte spacers and shims i just haven't added them yet.
Thanks guys
