Wheel Swap
My 67 Suburban 2WD has 6 bolt wheels, of course and I'm wanting to install winter tires on a spare set of rims. I'm wondering if newer Chev wheels (from the 90's) will fit OK without problems. Are the original wheel studs long enough to mount aluminum wheels? Or do I stay with steel wheels. How about the hub hole? Are they a fit?

Re: Wheel Swap
The center holes are smaller on the newer wheels.

Re: Wheel Swap
I have some 6x5.5" to 5x4.5" billet adaptors that make it easy to find wheels. Around here it seems like you can get stock jeep wheels cheap.

Re: Wheel Swap
Any machine shop can machine the centers to required diameter. I had this done to the 24's I run on my shortbox. It cost me $110 for the pair.

Re: Wheel Swap
I tried to put some of the 90's flat hubcap aluminum wheels on my 67 burb and the tires hit the inside well long before I could check the fit at the boltface!
In the 80's, GM started using enlarged tapers at the lugnut seats and different metric stud sizes. In the 90's they moved the axle ends outward and used wheels with more backspacing. |

Thanks, everyone. I was hoping it wouldn't be this difficult.

Re: Wheel Swap
Hi Bob.. I am thinking if you got some 6 hole stock steel rims from a 73/87
3/4 ton I think they should work and as you probably know there are tons of those trucks in wrecking yards. If they won't work I'm sure someone will mention it on here.

Re: Wheel Swap
Hey, Greg. I'll keep looking. There's gotta be something around.
Hope the weather's looking good up there in Toon Town. We're heading up on the 9th or so for a couple of weeks. Bob |
