1961 GMC front spindle change help
I am wanting to change to the tapered bearings on my 61 GMC and wasnt able to find the information on how to do this. Its the GMC 1000 series. I want to get rid of the ball bearings but dont know anything about changing spindles. I wasnt able to find what spindles work on this truck either. Any info would be helpful. I need very detailed info. Thank you

Re: 1961 GMC front spindle change help
Good question. I'm thinking along the same lines. Did the spindle change in 62-63 when they went to coil springs?

Re: 1961 GMC front spindle change help
I did see some 60-62 spindles in the CPP catalog...might check there. I know they list a different spindle in the 63-up application

Re: 1961 GMC front spindle change help
I think the CCP spindle might be for disk brake conversions, but I'm going by memory which isn't perfect. The link gives a great opiton and good info....

Re: 1961 GMC front spindle change help
well it looks like i may have lost out on the spindles i had lined up. I am needing some more but i cant seem to find any information telling me which ones will fit my 61 GMC. does anybody know? I really want to get away from the ball bearings but if i cant find the spindles i guess i will just have to order the balls again so i can get it back on the road.

Re: 1961 GMC front spindle change help
According to post #5 on the following thread, all you need to do is change the hubs to 62-68 models that come with the tapered bearings:

Re: 1961 GMC front spindle change help
Hey beast... I just yanked off my stock spindle/drums/etc. off my 62 chevy and put drop aspindles and disks on. If you're willing to cover the costs of shipping I'll send 'em to you. Next time I pick em up they're either going in a box or the dumpster
