Custom seat brackets?

I am thinking about getting some bucket seats from newer trucks. I am curious how those of you that have done this installed them. Did you make custom seat brackets? Or drill new holes in the floor and weld bungs to it? I would really like to switch over. My bench seat has had it and don't really want to keep it.

Re: Custom seat brackets?

I had tried buckets from an 89 chevy with c channel front and back with an x brace on each side and drilled the holes to match the ones in the floor. Now I have racing buckets and I made new brackets from angle iron and welded them together and drilled holes to match the holes in the floor.

Re: Custom seat brackets?

I first installed 60/40 seats from a 2006 Yukon with built in shoulder belts. Only had to drill new holes and add a 3/4 inch block. After several months they just felt too bulky. So this time I put in 40/20/40 seats from a 2003 Ram1500. MUCH better for room! I had to get new regular three point seat belts but worth it. Required quite a bit of cutting, welding new tabs, and drilling holes. time consuming but not that hard.

Re: Custom seat brackets?

Thanks for the link. I didn't think about reinforcing the floor with built in seatbelts, good idea. I don't have a welder, but I think I may have access to a mig through one of my friends. I'll start looking for seats next month, starting at pick n pull.
