5.3 swap into 68 gmc power steering pump question
I am trying to use the power steering pump that came on the 2001 5.3 gmc sierra engine, but am confused on how to connect it to my steering box. There are 3 lines coming out of the pump, one is the pressure line to the pump and the other 2 are connected to a power steering cooler. There doesn't seem to be a return line for me to hook my return from the box to the pump. Do I need a different power steering pump, or is there a way to make this one work?

Re: 5.3 swap into 68 gmc power steering pump question
3 lines means you have a hydroboost pump, which is kickass if you want to run fluid boosted brakes.
One line should be a pressure line (metal) which you can cut and re-flare the old fitting on to match your box, or have a new line swaged for you. The other line would be just a hose, with a worm clamp or hose clamp on it. That goes to your return. The third line would go to the hydroboost brakes, but can be plugged if your not using it. The other option is to pull it and see if you can trade or sell it to someone who wants to run hydroboost. Either way you'll have to adapt the pressure line to your box..

Sweet, that's kinda what I figured. I don't have a pic of the rear of the pump, but how do you know which line to use as the return, and which one for the hydroboost? Thanks for the help!

Re: 5.3 swap into 68 gmc power steering pump question
Doesn't matter, HB uses one pressure line that travels to the HB unit then a pressure line from the HB to your steering box and then the HB unit and the steering box have their own return lines. Be sure to check the LSx FAQ, you should be able to use the pressure fitting out of your old pump in the 5.3 pump so you can use all of your old lines.

The line connection with the flare type fitting is the pressure side of the pump.
The other two fittings are likely close to each other, and look like a piece of tubing with a small raised bump. These are the return side of the pump. the hose connection will be done with a hose clamp of some sort. One of these can be capped if not being used as in a HB system |

I have a standard pump and bracket if you don't want to run the HB. PM me if interested. I'll do some trading on your pump.
