Re: Lucky parts truck find
I would figure that would not be a parts truck it would be another build. Not to sound off key.But aren't the trucks like that suppose to be restored. Is this one to far gone to even think of the possibly of saving.
I guess sence i'm in the salvage business I hate seeing works of art chopped up or parted out.If they can be saved But i guess I'm the 1% that likes saving everything |

Re: Lucky parts truck find
Where do we draw the line with this stuff. Save or part??
For me it is easy math. I have not the time or resources to throw at this one and unless someone shows up on my doorstep with a wad of cash I will slowly use all the valuable parts including the entire chassis. Unfortunately that is the way it goes for me and I guess with ones like this being worth more in parts than whole it will keep on happening until that turns around. |

Re: Lucky parts truck find
Yep! Everybody deserves a lucky strike from time.
FWIW the hubcaps arent anything great but your right, they were all on there. The original 5 lug wheels we had to take off and throw on some temps with tires that held air for the ride. The SPID notes highway tires in the front and off road tires for the rear. That is what was still on the truck although flat and the odometer shows 91k miles. 191 or 91 or for that matter 391???? There is very little wear on the brake pedal or accelarator and even the armrests are in realatively good shape so i am leaning towards 91k. Pretty cool. |

Re: Lucky parts truck find
I do not know why you feel guilty. If you part it out, the parts go on to other trucks and builds, which IS saving trucks

Re: Lucky parts truck find
I dont really feel guilty. Actually I feel the same way. At least the parts go to other builds I would wind up doing....and probably will.
With so many people at home and on here mentioning that it ought to be built I figure why not see what happens. |

Re: Lucky parts truck find
Nice find Tim. I know what you mean about not being able to save them all. Just not possible. Time and money don't always allow a person to do what they want. But by parting them out it helps another truck survive, kinda like an organ donor program. I'll be looking to see if you part it as I would be intersted in the auto column tilt. Not turning this into a parts thread by no way, just interested.

Re: Lucky parts truck find
As it turns out I posted a ltd. time ad for the truck and have tentatively sold the whole thing. Now whether or not the buyer plans to part it or restore it I have no idea but whatever the case it is what he decides to do with it.
As a parts truck it was an incredible find that would give someone who messes with these trucks alot of potential to dress up another build but can see to where turning this into a restored truck would be a cool project and the finished results would be really cool. |
