72 Parking brake cable
Hello I am working on my 72 Cheyenne longbed restoration and I am having trouble removing the parking brake cable from the control arms. I have removed the c clip but they still will not come out of the slot. Any easy way to remove them.
Thanks |

Re: 72 Parking brake cable
I remember you posting this a little while back, so I assume it wasn't resolved for you. I am not sure where it is you are stuck, also not sure of the C clip you mention...and by control arms do you mean the metal rods that the cable is connected to either side of the back of the transmission? (see pic) can you have a look at the cable routing diagram as well and let us know whereabouts your having trouble?

Re: 72 Parking brake cable
On the driver side, there is allthread on the end of the front cable. You need a deep 1/2" socket and maybe vise grips to hold the allthread in place as you buzz off the double nuts. The cable will be free. On the passenger side, you need to pull the intermediate cable through the c clip. This can be a pain in the a$$ if there is any dirt/grime caught in the clip. Scrape all of the dirt out and work it through. I have done hundreds of these and if there is any trauma on the cable I torch it to save the hassle.
