Post Starter Problems!!!!!

I have a 71 Super with a 350/350. i put on a new starter 2 weeks a go and used 1 shim to get it lined up right it worked fine till last night it started griding the flywheel.I spent 3 hr. under this thing today tring to get this right.I tried 1 shim 2-3-4 shims and no shims the flywheel looks good so I'm stuck any ideals would help.

You need to use pull out the starter gear until it is in mesh with the flywheel, and stick a paperclip in the gap between the teeth. You should use 1/2 shims to get the starter closer or father from the flywheel. A replacement starter usually comes with a sheet that explains this easier then i can. Also, if you keep on having problems with the starter getting out of allingment, you may need a front starter brace. It is a small piece of metal that bolts to the front of the starter, and attached to a drilled & tapped hole in your block. A Chevy dealership should have one for about $5. Good luck!
