Re: I need to know everything about the Longhorn bed
Hello Richard,
Here some pictures of the bed and under carrage bed seem for you. I apoligize for the photo quality, but I have to use my so, so camara when posting pics on here. Hope this helps you out. Pic 1= top of bed where factory added extra 6 inches of bed. Pic 2 & 3= inside look at how they bent and folded the metal and attached it. Pic 4= Inside seem looking up, you can see the trim screw, so it identifies what area it is. Pic 5= is the seem toward the bottom of the bed where it curves. The Blue blur is my 1970 F250 in the back ground. R/ Billy

Pic 2= looking up trying to get an upclose of the seem up in there toward the top, you can see the bed wood and attachment point. Pic 3= A general picture for you with no tool box installed on the back showing the seem by the cab. This is my 1972 C/30 Cheyenne Super Longhorn W/402 BB. Enjoy! R/

Thanks for all of the pictures, now I really understand the descriptions. Exactly what I needed. One last question about the longhorns for you or whoever, I see a LOT of these trucks that were obviously running extra gas tanks. There are two types that I keep seeing over and over. The most are a square that looks about 8x8 that appears to just be screwed on to the side of the bed (ok I am assuming that there is a gas cap under it), the other is a second gas cap on the top of the bed rail. Were any of these from the factory? Thanks again, Richard

I will have to check my build sheet on if it is a factory of dealer option for the type that have the door. I have had two trucks from our type both Longhorn and reagular 8 foot bed with the gas doors. The doors are rivited on and have a conventional desk lock installed to lock them. Behind this door you should find a gas tank and cap. You should be able to see the tank from under the truck also. The other type that runs inside the bed and comes out at the side top of the bed is a factory install on my 1972 Cheyenne Super. It has a rubber gasket around it and routes through a bed hole, no door. The type of tanks that have the gas cap that routes into the inside rear wheel well I have been told are most likely dealer installed, my 1961 GMC 3/4 ton had one of these style and the original owner told me he dealer ordered this. I welcome any fello board member to jump on board and help explain this for Richard and add to this!!! I added a picture of my two trucks and on the white one you can see the side tank installed near the top of the bed on the driver side. The GMC originally had side tanks and the old bed had two doors, one on each side. This new bed does not have side/saddle tanks and there was never a tank swich inside of the cab. The white Longhorn has a tank swich inside to go back and forth and a factory selection swich as well. I have both a 1970 Sierra Grande GMC and a Chevrolet Cheyenne Super Longhorns, so if you need anymore questions, just ask or PM me.

Re: I need to know everything about the Longhorn bed
My '72 has an aux fuel tank ( listed on the factory spid) that is steel and is mounted under the bed, outside the frame, behind the drivers door. It's bolted vertically up through the bedwood, one of the bolts actually being a long carraige bolt that actually goes through a sleeved hole through the middle of the tank. The filler neck appears to be the same setup as a Blazer or Surburban as is the fuel filler cover. Cap and gasket is the same setup as the main tank behind the seat.

Here is an example off my 1972 Longhorn of a factory installed auxillery tank option with documentation and pics for you. Pic 1= option listed on SPID. Pic 2= selector swich above A/C vent on driver side. Pic 3= Inside cab/floor tank selection swich. Pic 4= Looking across the bed at the other side you can see the painted white cover over the gas hose that leads out the side of the bed at the top. Enjoy! R/

Re: I need to know everything about the Longhorn bed
This picture is of the GMC Longhorn and it originally had a bed on it with the doors for auxillery tanks on each side. I have replaced the old bed because it was damaged and un repairable. I kept the doors off the old bed, but looking at the SPID this truck had an after market auxillery installed because it was not an listed option.
