Dash lighting

I have read many posts about people wanting brighter lights in the dash cluster. I have herd of people replacing the #194 bulbs and installing #168 to make the cluster brighter and also spending some cash on led,s. Well I decided to do a little research on wedge base bulbs and the number of the bulb is #17177. This is a newer bulb that is used on some import cars and trucks and also the Ford vehicles and is the same size as the others.

This how it compares to the others

#194 puts out 2.5 cp

#168 puts out 3.0 cp

#17177 puts out 4.0 cp

So if you want just about double the light output use the #17177 bulbs and you will be amazed. I paid $4.90 for 10 bulbs and was one of the best upgrades I did.

Re: Dash lighting

You can also paint over the funky green color with white paint. Your gauges will light up white, but you can see them a LOT better.

This one is even brighter than the #17177 and it's only one more watt, but the price is per bulb. Looks like it might be a Xenon bulb. I didn't do a search for price comparison.

Ya that's the big thing we did for our K5s, but we use spray chrome. I'm sure white is just as good.

Re: Dash lighting

Good info. I recently changed to the 168 bulbs and was happy with the difference. I will have to try these now. Back to the parts house I go.
