Project 69.........2wd to 4wd

Ok so this is a 69 I got a from a friend. Just a few pics from when we picked it up. I picked it up with no suspension under it, got it home and made it a roller to get in the garage. In one pic you will see my bodyless K5, thats all the running gear im using for the 69. Dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear, th400/205, 44's and a nice 383 stroker motor I have on a stand ready to go in. I just got my fgb52 kit today from DIY4x so im ready to get going on the 4x4 conversion. The body is from georgia but apparently had been leaking into the cowl and under the dash is rotted pretty bad, sucks cause the rest of the truck isnt too bad. I just picked some new body tools to help out with the body. Heres a few pics of some of the work ive done so far, I should have some updates tommorow with the axle and springs under the front of the truck.

Love the front spring/radiator support mount. Who makes them?

Re: Project 69.........2wd to 4wd

What's the plan for converting the rear? Is this a GMC chassis or a Chevy - I know the GMC would have been leaf's in the rear making it easier to convert.

Re: Project 69.........2wd to 4wd

I am in the same boat as you. I need a solution to adding rear leaf springs. I know that stock 73-87 hangers can be made to work, but if there is anything else that would work easier Id like to know. anymore progress on yours?

Re: Project 69.........2wd to 4wd

Still welding more sheet metal on the cab, gotta get the cab all squared away then im gonna pull it off the frame. Once the cab comes off the frame ill work on getting the rear suspension done. I got a good game plan on doing it and will post pics of it when im done.

Re: Project 69.........2wd to 4wd

that's an 8 inch lift rear 52' spring in the front. if that same set up was used in a 4x4 frame any idea how much lift that would give you?

Re: Project 69.........2wd to 4wd

I am working on a 71 gmc 2wd to 4wd project and your project seems to be the fix to my issues. Was wandering how you ended up doing the rear conversion. My gmc does have leafs and i was looking into buying a diy4x shackle flip for the rear and use the same as you did in the front. Please any help is appreciated.
