A few questions if anyone knows...

There are people with wide (16 ") slicks with a stock frame. How wide is the housing (should be shorter than a 67 I guess) and what backspace wheel are people using? I want the option of going with a bigger tire if I need it some day. Also I need to by some sheet metal patch panels , floor , bed side. Who has the best fitting parts? I will try to find good used GM stuff but if I cant I am pretty picky about fit on stuff so I want opinions from people that have been there and done it.
Thanks
Mark

Re: A few questions if anyone knows...

The rear end width and wheel size wiil depend on the spacing needed to get the tire under the truck. The way we did it when building a drag car was to place the tire and wheel under the car and check the fit. Then we would measure the width between the wheels to fab the rear housing. Not sure what year truck you have so the fit of a slick that big I can't help you with. I know on my 65 you could not get a tire that big under it with out frame work. As far as body panels depends what you need as far as who has the best stuff.

Re: A few questions if anyone knows...

Its a 69 frame, body. I want to use 67-68 front sheet metal. Mainly I need a right side bed panel and a right front fender. The door bottoms are rusted, floor and cab corners as always. I here you on fitting the wheel tire ,that it what I will do, I just have smaller tires so I wanted to see how differant it was with a real wide tire.

Re: A few questions if anyone knows...

My 1970 gmc truck has a stock length rear housing and I am running a 16" wide wheel. I just ordered a custom set from holeshot wheels. The tire I run at the track is a 31 10.5w15 and street is a 33 18.5 sportsman.

Re: A few questions if anyone knows...

I used a company to get a 11 inch rim under mine stock. It's all about the back spacing. Measure from the drum to the outer fender lip, another from the inside of the wheel well to the face of the drum.

You want a min of 1/2 inch from either edge. Trucks are very easy to gain room in the box. there is alimit to the amount of offset you can have. What that limit is I do not know. But I am sure a rim company can tell you.
