Window switch options HELP
So I have an 86 swb standard cab but I have window motors from a 79. I am having trouble with the driver door master switch. I have been using toggle switches to operate the windows for the past year and have had no problems. I recently had the door panels wrapped in vinyl and wanted to put the original switches back but all I could find we're 6 prong switches. I found a 6 prong harness from the bone yard so I figured simple rewire plug and play right ? Wrong. My original switch had 5 prongs. Window motor on drivers side only has 5 wires. No matter how I try to rig up this 6 prong switch , it just won't work. It smokes, gets hot or both windows will only run very slowly. With the original 5prong switch I had no problems, nor do I have any problems when using toggle switches. I guess my question is: has anyone rigged up anything else decent looking , more modern, or even have an idea how I could go about solving this???? Sorry it took so long to get to the point. I'm fruastrated

Re: Window switch options HELP
I would try OEM online vendors to get the correct switch:
oewarehouse.com oehq.com autopartstomorrow.com gmpartsdirect.com rockauto.com Make sure you buy OEM Delco or GM parts for this. |

Re: Window switch options HELP
Tucson, thanks for the list of sites. Really helpful , but I could only find 6 prong switches. Vegas, I have actually been using your original post as reference this whole time, but I couldn't seem to get my switches working so I thought I would try my luck at asking again
Posted via Mobile Device I don't have a ground wire btw.

Re: Window switch options HELP
Same switch I used...
You need a ground... maybe you old switch grounded to the door??? but you need to run a ground for that switch... (looking at the picture) bottom left it positive, bottom right is ground.. top two left runs to the pass. side door, top two right run to your power window motor in the drivers door.. do you have the single switch for the pass door?

Re: Window switch options HELP
Passenger side one button switch should be GM part number 19251626 or AC Delco part number 11P21. I don't know the number of pins but this should be the one - check it out. This AC Delco part number is available at all of the OEM online vendors noted above.
