I always hook the red and yellow together and hook them to my brake light fuse, you just have to remember to turn the radio off.

That's kind of what I'm trying to keep from doing. Initially the PO had both power wires hooked to the cigarette lighter which is why their battery was constantly dead, it was constantly drawing power.

Nate you can plug the red wire (12v+ acc) to the ingnition unfused outlet and the yellow (12v+ constant) to you cig lighter....this is how I hooked mine up with 0 problems...hope this helps

clos69, thanks for the info. Actually that is how I have it set right now. I was only worried about this type of setup if I was sitting in the truck and didn't have the truck running but turned to the "start" setting on the ignition. Would I end up burning up my points?

Apparently I also have some issues with my ignition as my truck tried to turn itself over in the accessory position yesterday afternoon.

Just trying to make sure everything will work after listening to the radio.

Check the fuse. That labeled picture is a little wrong-the fuse labeled heat is actually the radio fuse. If you are using the stock radio it should be 3 amps. Also, if your using the stock radio, make sure your speaker is good. Playing the radio for very long without a speaker load on the output will burn it up.

oldgold70c10, actually the PO hacked the dash so I installed a new unit (aftermarket). I was a little thrown off by the fuses and their labels. I will have to check the fuse labeled "heat." IIRC the color on the fuse was red, and the others on the block had a blue color on them (coloring within the fuse less than a 1/4").

I read the whole thread and followed the instructions and my new radio in my '68 C10 works perfectly.

Red wire from fuse box for main power when key is on.

Yellow wire jumped from cigarette lighter as memory power.

Same issue here! Dead terminal. didnt used to be which makes me wonder if theres a relay somewhere that needs replaced?
