1962 manual

I just picked my self up a 1962 chevy 4x4 short bed yesterday. Its a project truck almost everything needs to be put together. I was just wondering if there are any good manuals out there that shows how to work on theses trucks like wiring diagrams and how to hook the heater up, how to hook the wipers all up....etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First up – welcome to the forum! Post pictures when you can, everyone here loves photos. In my opinion the best book you can buy is the Chevy Truck Shop Manual for your year truck. For a 1962 you will need the full 1960 Shop Manual:

I have the paper copy of the 1960 Chevy Shop manual and have used it extensively, both for myself and for researching info for other forum members. The CD version may actually be easier to deal with, but I haven't used one personally to know how effectively it was put together. There may be something else available for the 4x4 components, but since I’ve never owned one I have no knowledge of what might be out there.

I’ve you’re intending to do a complete tear down, the 60-66 assembly manual can also be very helpful, but the hard copy may be preferable over the CD:

The difficulty with this “manual” is that it isn’t really a book at all. It’s a collection of sub-assembly reference drawings for use by workers on the production line. Someone fortunately assembled all these drawings into one collection and called them a manual, but since the contents were never originally intended to be a publication, there is no index and almost no order to the drawings. It can take forever to find what you are looking for. From reviews that I’ve read, the CD version is many times more difficult to deal with because you can’t put sticky notes all over the pages.

Old “Motors Manuals” for your year truck can not only be very helpful, but offer a lot of general mechanical education. These are pretty much an Ebay purchase. Here's a typical example:



In my experience, Chilton’s Manuals are about 75% less valuable than a comparable Motors Manual, and Hayne’s Manuals are virtually worthless.

Absolutely, everybody here likes photos. Part of the interest in the site is being able to see details of how others handle specific issues while progressing on their projects, as well as the eye candy of finished trucks.
