Ivory bumpers and grille

I have been playing around with paint colors since GM called the "white" an Ivory. Since I wasnt around in 1965 to remember what it looked like I have used an old hubcap, the lettering on the tailgate and the grille on my unmolested truck. I have found Krylon's Gloss Ivory shot over Dupli Color white primer and looks very very close.

I had to do something to the bumpers I had, they just looked like crap. Here is a before and after...... What do you think?

Grille isn't done yet, just the front bumper.... I will do the grille and surround next

Re: Ivory bumpers and grille

That has a nice look to it. Next time I repaint mine I may give that a try. Right now my front end is Rustoleum Gloss White.

Re: Ivory bumpers and grille

You nailed it! I'll echo what others have said and thank you for posting the color combos. I'll be using this soon on several trim areas.

Re: Ivory bumpers and grille

Here is a couple more photos, I will add more when I paint the grille and surround.

I sanded the bumper, used a thin coat of red dupli color primer followed by a heavier coat of white dupli color primer... I then shot a coat of Gloss White Krylon and then two coats of the Gloss Ivory.

I have used this method of layering before since you cant easily tint spray bomb paint. putting one color over another will darken or lighten it up.

I painted the back side of the bumper semi gloss black and let the ivory the overspray onto it since this is what the unmolested truck appeared to be like.

Re: Ivory bumpers and grille

Here is a couple pics of one of my hubcaps I was comparing to, I know there will be some fading with age but I know this hasn't been repainted so it was something to get close.
