Cool find today...

I love finding hidden gems in my hometown area! Came across this 72 Blazer CST today about a block from where I've worked for the last five years. Had to talk to the guy elderly gentleman that owned it (for about an hour) and find out about it. Turns out he ordered it new from the factory back in 72. Still has the factory invoice and all the original documentation. Told me he replaced the original gas tank with a much bigger one, and also added a second 10 gallon saddle tank because it was so hard to get fuel during the gas crunch in the mid 70s. No word yet on if they are willing to sell, but in the meantime it is just sitting in the same place it has been for the last 20 years or so.

Re: Cool find today...

Not yet. Its not going anywhere anytime soon. I just gave him my number and chatted with him a while so he'd remember me. I think its actually in his son's name, so we'll see what he has to say. If I find that they are open to selling it, I'll probably sell a rig or two to make room first anyway. I looked it over pretty good while I was there, and couldn't find rust of any kind on it. Boxes were good, rockers were good, floors looked good... Its been pretty well cared for from what I could tell. It'd be a good one to pick up for sure.

Re: Cool find today...

A white dash pad,,,very odd. First time I've seen that.

My 72 is a CST also with white interior (although highlander), and black carpet like this one, but mine has a factory black dash pad. That's all I've ever seen.

Re: Cool find today...

Ya, its a unique interior combo for sure. Where he special ordered it from the factory, he may have picked it like that I guess. I didn't get a peek at the SPID, but if I can get back up there and get a look I'll see what it says.

Re: Cool find today...

Dang, that's really nice. Not that I blame them, but too bad they cut the dash. Aside from that, looks like the only thing wrong with it is the steering wheel.

Re: Cool find today...

Ya, bummer about the dash for sure. The steering wheel doesn't bother me much though. I have decent spare black one, but I wouldn't use it because my legs are too dang long to fit under those monstrosities! If I can get them to OK selling it, I'll probably try to sell the 72 Jimmy I have now. And maybe one of the two shortbox trucks...

Re: Cool find today...

Nice find. Another clean Oregon Blazer. Those are the ones you look for. Hopefully you can save it.

There is an old cat around here that cruises around in an orcha CST. I've never caught up with him in person - I always see him driving it though.

Re: Cool find today...

What are you waiting for!!! I was in the same situation. The guy was probably in his 90s. He owned it since the early 70s. He said lots of people said they wanted to buy it but they never made an offer. I told him id give him $2000 if it the motor ran good. The old man ran for the jumper cables. I couldnt believe what i had just gotten myself into because i had just been given my layoff notice at work. It was early 2009 and things were slow. He said he had given first dibs on it to his hvac guy. I offered him another $100 to do the deal with me. He put down the half dialed phone and said i didnt have to give him the extra hundred and i could have it. I ended up working for the guy who had first dibs on it about a year ago Theres nothing like driving the vehicle your boss wants and cant have.

The moral of the story is money talks and BS, well, you gotta be a good BS'er.

Go make him a lowball offer. Its not stealing, it's just a steal

Re: Cool find today...

I may do that. I'll have to sell at least one of my other rigs first though to have the cash to throw at him. And to avoid getting neutered by my wife for bringing home yet ANOTHER truck!

Re: Cool find today...

I went and talked to the old guy's son (who actually owns it now) after work today. Didn't seem too interested in selling it at this point. I did at least get my foot in the door in case he ever does decide to sell it. I may have a lead on another first-owner Blazer here in town that I may look into as well...
