drive shaft??
just wondering what I would need for a yolk for my 4l80e? is it the same as a th400?....and how much longer is the 4l80e trans than a 700r4 trans?

After you find out the spline count and length you need hit the junkyard as I found tons of good ones at my local pickapart when I was scrounging for my driveline setup, even with having it shorten and re-balanced I have less than 150.. you almost can't get a yoke for that. And those are the big 32spline ones that are pretty tough and most of the ones I found were like new or just had a little surface rust that comes off with steel wool or sandpaper.

Not sure but if it's like the one use which was out of a later truck it was 4-5" if I remember there's not alot of differnt sizes so you can't go to wrong if your a little long. The yoke can be shortened too. but the important thing is that when you install the yoke into the transmission you have 3/4" to -1" of travel for the yoke to slide in and out. That's how the driveline shops measure for it so it doesn't bottom out. Do you have a drive shaft your trying to use or? If not just find the yoke and start from there.

Moose,
Are you planning on buying new yoke and getting a driveline built? If your searching for yokes new try to match it with the same size ujoint that your rear takes it will save you the trouble of having two different ones when it comes time to replacing , Posted via Mobile Device |

Check the output shaft of the transmission, if it has a threaded hole it was a bolt on yoke and you will need a special one, if not threaded you can just order a long 32spline with the ujoints that match your current driveline but your most likely going to have to shorten one of you lines because I think the 4l80e is longer that the 700r4 and definitely longer than a th350 or 400. This is also dependant on your engine placement. Have you measured what driveline you have now to see how close it is?

I just did a rough measure and thought it might be close...but I'll have to check again...the trans def has a hole in the output shaft.....

Ive never seen a 4L80E have a slip yoke, Unless someone put a TH400 output shaft in it.....Use a Bolt-on yoke....You already have a Slip Yoke in your drive shaft (circle)

Im curious to know why its missing, Remove the tailhousing & make sure the O-ring is there...If it is Replace the O-ring.
If the O- ring groove/seat for the bolt-on yolk has been machined off, Ive seen ouput shafts that someone took a grinder to them also.......You have to run a slip yoke. Point is....Check out whats going on before you buy parts. Ive thrown Bolt-on TH400/4L80E yolks away because I was tired of tripping over them. The TH400/4L80E slip yoke is rare in good used shape. Hit some local transmission shops after you know whats going on. |

Not really sure either what I am going to go with, just didn't like the driveshaft shop quoting me $500 to build me a new drive shaft from scratch!

I have a bolt on type that has the u-joint bolt on clamps. They are missing tho, let me know if you think you can use it.
