Anyone know how hard it is to change from a standard to auto in a 4x4 ?
I am looking at a 73 4x4 1/2 ton. I would like to know what is involved to change from a 4 Speed granny gear standard to a 350 or 400 tranny. I know I will need steering coloum but that's all I can think of.

i just switched my truck from auto to stick and it was very much a labor of love
the pedals are the most time consuming part of the swap you gotta pull the whole dash out to drop the pedals the next problem that i am having still is getting a rear dive shaft i got lucky with the front one and remember not to throw anything away.....good luck

you need the steering column unless you can rig up an aftermarket floor shifter (beside the t-case shifter??) and all related linkage... and of course the trans and t-case.. and related driveshafts... and the pedal setup.. and there is a bracket that is riveted to the frame for the auto linkage which you'll have to borrow off a donor truck (should be REAL easy to find, just about anywhere)
There might be a couple other little things but thats the majority of it mike |

I had to pull the tranny crossmember off an automatic truck, and modify it to make things work on mine. As was said before "don't throw anything away". Good Luck
