Spring for shifter

I removed my old shifter and bought a new one. Can someone tell me where the spring goes and how to put it back in? I know it helps the shifter to keep it tight. Can someone help me?

Re: Spring for shifter

Slide the spring on the end and insert into hole in column. Push shifter in and insert pin.
