Stripped teeth on window crank mechanism where meets handle?
How would you guys go about fixing this situation? The teeth on the window crank handles are chewed up from PO using vise grips as handles (ugh!). So I bought new handles, but obviously I need to do something to get them to grip onto the mechanism... Any ideas? I was thinking about drilling a hole straight through the handle and that part of the mechanism to fit a cotter pin or bolt, but doubt that would come out straight...

Classic Parts of America has a window regulator repair kit, runs about $17 and will replace the part you have thats damaged. Or you can replace the entire unit.

You'll need the regulator. Piece numbered 10.
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cbe/full.aspx?Page=13 Not sure if someone sells just the part you need it's self, but for $63, you might be fixing several other small problem all at once. But don't hack it, just fix it right.

Re: Stripped teeth on window crank mechanism where meets handle?
I wasn't too happy with the vise grip situation, and it sucks because the rest of the mechanism is perfect. I cleaned out all the old grease from the spring and repacked it along with lubing everything else. Window rolls up and down really nice! I guess replacing it couldn't hurt though...

Re: Stripped teeth on window crank mechanism where meets handle?
I drilled a hole in mine for the time being. It works great for now and when I redo my wether striping I will replace the crank also. It does not need to be a straight hole all the way through but just deep enough for the screw to get a good grip.

Had the same problem with the driver side door handle. Bought a new replacement piece for left and right side just to do it right.

If I remember correctly, it's just one of the window handles having the issue. I bought 4 new handles already...

Re: Stripped teeth on window crank mechanism where meets handle?
Met up with another forum member and picked up a pair of window regulators, probably just as easy to replace the whole thing at once...
