Kinda stuck with Auto swap....
Ok this has turned out to be alot bigger project than I imagined. I need some help, pics whatever you can do with some parts. #1) I cant find anywhere to hook up my Throttle cable, kickdown cable and spring on my Edel 600cfm manual choke carb. also none of the brackets will work that hold the cables still, but that I can get aroun to later. Any pics here would be very helpful. Also if anyone has any mounting brackets, let me know where you got them.
#2) I went and got the linkage off a 72 truck and steering column, but I need the shifting lever for the trans. My trans is from a 77 Monte and the lever is too small. I need a lever and spring and retainer for a 71 linkage. I have part numbers from GM, but he said they was discountinued. #3) what does everyone recommend for tranny lines, Is there anywhere I can get them prebent? This has gotten alot bigger than I planned and need to get this out of my grandparents shop, if you know what I mean. Thanks for the help. One more thing why did they make a crossmember where you couldnt remove your pan without moving the member. I cant get to 2 bolts on the back side of tranny to change filter without having to move xmember back a few inches. Thanks again.

#2 the shifter linkage issue....
Kugel Components- 39 bux and BAM, you got linkage Slicker than greasy gopher guts on a door knob.

As for servicing the tranny, try a 1/4 inch drive set. You may need a universal too.

What about hooking all those up to the carb, from what I can see on my Malibu the kickdown cable needs to free and catch when it slides, my carb doesnt have this hook for it. Which is weird cause I bought it from a guy with an auto tranny.

Trans kickdown is not a neccesary thing to have, it is for passing gear which you can do manually, at least until you can find the right bracket. You did not say what kind of tranny you have, sounds like a th350. check summit and jegs for those parts as they sell kits for most of that stuff

for the lines i cant remeber what size but i used metal brake line tubing from any parts store just becareful bending it so you dont kink it

The "hook" you speak of missing from the carb is actually a stud that is held on with a nut and washer. All those different holes on the side of the carb accomodate different linkage setups. You can buy an assortment of "ball studs or linkage studs" from your local speed shop or Jegs or Summitt.

Walker is right though, if your tranny is not an overdrive, then we are dealing with a TH350, and the kick down is not all that important.
It's nice to have, but you can go without and have it on the road untill you can sort that part out. A junk yard is a great place to get the little odds and ends for this kind of swap. If you go to the right yards, they won't even charge you for little BS parts. |
