So I decided to go blitz black (pics)

I posted on this forum awhile ago about being undecided about black or blue satin. I couldnt pass up the price of blitz black paint. I gotta tell ya tho i was worried it would be too flat now im concerned with how shiny it is but it still looks good. i know everyone does black but ive never seen it around my area only on the internet. plus my 5 yearold said he likes black better and he has stood close by as ive busted my knuckles taking the truck apart haha. plus he loves driving around in the old truck.

anyways the paint lays down very nice. i didnt put one run in the paint and its the first time ive painted besides laying the primer. did get a bug that flew into the paint tho.

The black looks great. And the bug adds character.

That turned out great, especially for a first time paint job. Looking forward to seeing the whole truck back together.

If you’re interested, here are a few tips for what they are worth:

It’s a good idea to keep needle nose tweezers in the garage during a paint job. Sometimes if a bug doesn’t sink completely into the paint it can be lifted out and the blotch sprayed over, nearly or completely covering the problem.

If the paint is too shiny or too flat it’s easily adjusted by the percentage or type of thinner being used. Acetone dries very fast and can produce a very flat finish. Paint thinner generally dries a little slower with more gloss, and acrylic enamel reducer causes the paint to lay down very smooth – either flat or shiny depending on how much is used. I tried 7 different formulas before I landed on the mix that I was after.

Also it you’re going to paint the whole truck in pieces, it’s a good idea to write down your mix and count the coats applied to each panel to increase the chance the panels all turn out the same color and finish.

Re: So I decided to go blitz black (pics)

Thanks guys. I used omni medium reducer and the valspar hardner. 8:1:1. but actually used a touch more reducer so it flowed nicer. The bed and front clip have two coats. once its completly dried it will come out of the garage and the truck will come in to get painted. i did the interior in gloss white valspar and it turned out great. once assembled ill prolly put a final coat over the whole truck
