No oil pressure
I was going to start my ls6 for the first time this weekend so i thought i would unhook ignition from the msd box and crank till i got oil pressure then fire. BUT i never got pressure. any ideas? im gonna check the oring on the pickup tube if nobody else has an idea. thanks

I couldn't get pressure until it fired off. Worried me some at the time but it was fine.

cranked mine.....then pulled it and yanked the pan, checked, reinstalled motor and cranked some more (keep in mind this was a brand new motor)....finally decided to let it fire and see what happened...oil pressure came right up!

ls motors are pain in the butt to prime up....let it crank and run a few seconds shut it off and repeat and then when you get preasure run it at 2000rpm until the lifters get pumped up(because more than likely they'll be making some racket)...car craft or hot rod had a neat and in-expensive write up a year or so ago on how to make a priming kit for ls motors...good luck

there is a way to set up a priming system...using a bucket full of clean oil, some hose and a drill w/pump head and rig a setup that primes the motor thru a "external cooler fitting" type setup.

There is a priming procedure in the service manual. You pull a oil galley plug in the front drivers side of the block and use a hand pump to fill the oil passages with a quart or two of oil, then top the oil off. (Special GM tool but just looks like a hand pump, they aren't building pressure just filling the passages.)

well I decided to go ahead and start it and see what happens and BAM!!!! oil pressure. It fired right up and just sit there and idled like its been running for years. I am so happy with my decision to go LS when i get water in it and can let it idle a little longer i will get a video. thanks for the info guys.

i usually take my thermostat apart at 1st and then run it awhile to make sure coolant circulates thru the block and heads and then put the the plunger assembly back in....its alittle messy,but it gives me peace of mind...
