Stock gastank moved into bed? Anyone?

Anyone moved their stock tank into the bed?

WHY?

Yes I know its behind the seat, its fine there, if you smell gas replace the gasket on the pick up/sending unit,and replace the filler rubber hose and clamps.

had mine in the bed for a while if you turn it around so the filler neck is on the passenger side it fits good up against the front of the bed only drawback is your gas evaporates alot in the summer mine was painted black so that could have been part of the problem sorry no pictures at the moment ill see if i can find some

Has nothing to do with smell..

Has 100% to do with belly clearance..

Ive already mocked seat up with no slide tracks. I can move seat down closer to floor a few inches, and move it back a few inches.

That, along with either sinking steering column into dash or going to a flatter wheel, gains me alot of room.

I like being down in truck. And at 6'1 and 355, I need alot of adjustments to accomplish this...

I thought instead of spending $$ on a tank for under rear of truck, which would also cause me to re-do my airride set-up, since tank, compressor and solinoid is where tank would need to go, that I could use my stock tank and build a cool looking 'crate' to house the tank across the bulkhead.

I figured I wasnt first one to consider this...

Maybe Im wrong based on lack of replies....

I would think a regular fuel cell in the bed would work better.

Now That I understand LOL

how bout using something like a polished Diamond plate truck box cut open to cover it. then you could still use the top part of the box for small storage, and you would not risk anything in the bed sliding into the tank.

Sorry for assuming it was due to the in cab tank, most of the time this question comes from someone worried about the tank being in the cab.

Being a panel owner I dont have that issue,,, since I moved the mounting points back further for tummy clearance..LOL

Be careful since the stock gas tanks were not designed to be exposed to the elements. Also, they were designed to be protected by the structure of the cab.
