Sand in my Diff

Hi guys. Since a while before I bought my '65, she sat with her diff cover off. I want to clean all the crud out of the rear end before I refill the fluid and get her back on the road, but I'm new to axles and I'm not sure what would be the best route to go. Should I just spray unholy amounts of brake parts cleaner until I'm pretty sure it's all cleaned up, or should I take the whole thing apart and then clean it? I'm not sure what goes into taking it apart, and I've been a little unlucky finding a manual that tells how.

Thank you guys!

On ones that are just nasty i always wash them out with brake clean and use air to dry and refill and go and seems to help them out.

I agree with spraying it out, I just prefer carb cleaner over brake clean is all. I would suggest putting the rear end up on jackstands, so you can spin the carrier and ring gear to get as much of whe contaminents out. Also with being able to spin it over by hand, you can feel and listen for anything that might have gotten into the bearings. Once you feel confident it is clean, install a new gasket, secure the cover, and fill with 80W90 gear oil. As a secondary measure, after you drive it for say 50 miles or so, you could change the gear oil again.

Thank you guys, I appreciate it. I can spin it over by turning the driveshaft or the drive wheel, right?
