Disk brake help

Where can i find the adapter sleeve that mates your original inner tie rod to the later model (80's) outer tie rod? I've read that they make them, but cant seem to find them anywhere. I could fab some up, but if i can just pick some up i would rather do that.

Would it be cheaper and easier to just get a 80's crosslink?

Re: Disk brake help

Just change the entire steering linkage to the later model. All you have to do is drill new holes to mount the later style idler arm. This is what I have always done. That way there are no special parts involved. Replacement parts can be found at your local auto parts supply if needed.

Your new '66 inners won't work.

Your 73-87 outers are RH thread.
Your '66 inners are RH thread also.
You will need '66 outer tie rods (LH thread) bolted in the inner tie rod location, to make the adapter sleeves work.

Ask me how I know,... I have two brand new inner tie rods setting in the box on the shelf, also.

Yep.
They don't tell you that when you buy the adapter sleeves.
The early tie rods are 5/8" diameter.
The later tie rods are 11/16" diameter.

When you buy the adapter sleeves, you think you are just adapting from one diameter to the other,... they forget to tell you about the different thread pitch.

That's why I alway recommend the "conversion" drop spindles.
(60-62 and 63-70 versions)
They are a direct bolt on.
But there is still companies like CPP that sell a kit that swaps everything over to 73-87 spindles.
That's old news.
10 years ago you had to use 73-87 spindles.
(or even 71-72 spindles)
Not any more.

Re: Disk brake help

I done my swap with a 86 spindle and used the cpp sleeve, I used 86 outer tie rod ends and used my old (outer tie rod ends for the new inner). No problems what so ever.
