5.3 installation

To those who have put these engine into the box style, truck mine is a 92 silverado. Do I need to pull the front clip that holds the grill? Or can I leave it? The ls style engine seems to be taller, mine is a truck 5.3 but I don't know how much taller they are. I will be using an engine hoist with the leveling bar. Thanks I am just trying to look ahead as much as possible.

Re: 5.3 installation

I took the front sheet metal off of my S10 because I'm planning on having my motor in and out a FEW times. It is a lot easier to set the motor height and do the exhaust without dealing with the sheet metal. I'm also using a 5.3 and they are taller than the carbed V8 I had in it.

Re: 5.3 installation

x2....pulled the whole front clip off my 86 when I swapped it over, makes it alot easier...had to lift the motor pretty high, and tip the trans, cause the truck was on stands.....and it was in and out a few times....

Re: 5.3 installation

I took the the grille, bumpers, radiator support off but left the fenders on. Believe it or not, I never took the hood off.

Re: 5.3 installation

Thanks for the response I am going to try and pick it up over the grill. The hoist I am using has the leveling bar and I think that will help get it over. I got everything but motor mounts took off this afternoon. I should have it out in the morning. I have already hit one snag my truck has the t5 manual trans, and the yoke is to big for the 4l60e that I am going to replace it with.
