i used to work at a body shop...we had a shortbox '72 come in that was previously a lwb. all the guy did on that one was cut the frame and butt weld it back together. it worked, so it can definitely be done...but that particular method looked unsafe.

cut the extra section out of the frame, then call your professional welder buddy (you have one of those right? ) and tell him to make it whole again.

Re: cant find a short bed any where

Its called sectioning. Having square is everything, do a z cut on the frame, section and re weld using a strong welder, plate the seam with a fish mouth as well as "rose holes" or "fish eye welds." ""slang?? Cant remember proper termonology" ag was along time ago lol.But yes its possible, the 67-72 sectioning is so popular due to the limited swb trucks.

Do a google search on lwb to swb and ull find a step by step tutorial, shows exactally where to cut and what not, i tried to find it for ya but its hard on my phone.

Good luck!

Btw always a good idea to have a spare frame just incase!
And a plasma cutter always helps.

Re: cant find a short bed any where

i think cutting the and rewelding the bed would be much more time consuming and a PITA then doing the frame.

Re: cant find a short bed any where

maybe i wrote this wrong im going to cut the frame to make it a short bed truck, but i also want to cut my 8ft bed down to a short bed to make it fit.

other note co worker said his dad has a 84 he only uses for plowing the drive way in the winter, he said i can take all the body parts and give him mine, he has a short bed. so i got to cut down my 8 ft bed to give back so it will fit on his swb.
