Heater Core Help!

so it seems whoever owned the truck before me disconnected the heater core. i'm guessing it was leaking so i plan on pulling it out and replacing it. not so much of a rush right now being summer. just not sure how to reconnect the lines. included a few pics. any help would be appreciated. thanks again.

Re: Heater Core Help!

It should be easy. I think one hose is bigger then the other one. Just hook them up.

Re: Heater Core Help!

It's fairly easy, one line is 3/4 and one is 5/8. Just disconnect where the two hoses are joined and connect the 3/4in hose to the large port on the heater core then the 5/8in line to the smaller port.

Re: Heater Core Help!

ditto,
On mine the larger goes from the HC to the rad (return)
smaller from the intake to the HC.
No pics on dial-up sorry.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Heater Core Help!

I have the same problem, my heater exploded last week. I'm just going to bypass it for now. Is there an adapter I can use to plug the 5/8 hose into the 3/4 hose, what is the best way to quick fix this for now. I'm working on other issues right now at since it 80 degrees outside the heater core gets low priority.

You can get a plastic fitting at the parts store specifically to bypass the heater core or pick up some fittings at the hardware store.

Re: Heater Core Help!

When you buy a replacement heater core be sure to get a copper core. I would even check out an OEM GM heater core on the online OEM vendors to see if their price is not much more than the aftermarket parts store price. I think the quality of aftermarket radiator and heater cores has gone down in recent years, even for copper parts.
