Re: Fuel sending unit
I have never removed the bed of mine, but dropping the tank isn't that hard. It can be heavy if it has fuel in it. I'm about to drop mine, I'm in the process of running mine dry so its easier to work with.

Re: Fuel sending unit
I'd drop the tank. Disconnect the lines after you lower it a few inches.

Re: Fuel sending unit
Its way easier to drop the tank. Put a jack and a couple jack stands under it and remove the bolts. You can disconnect the rubber lines from the hard lines under the bed. Just be sure to remove the little strap from the frame that holds the lines.

Re: Fuel sending unit
Dropping the tank is a PITA. The sender hoses never cooperate with me. If I'm not replacing the tank I pull the bed. It's much quicker.
I've pulled a bed in 15 minutes or less with help for 2-3 minutes of it. 3-4 guys can move an unhooked long bed to sawhorses real quick. I've done a shorty with just two of us. Unplug the taillights on the LH frame rail and the license lights at the center. Undo the filler neck and pull the rubber couplers. New bed bolts are cheap. If they don't move with a 3/8" ratchet I cut em off.

Re: Fuel sending unit
if yo have access to a motorcycle jack or tranny jack the job gets easier, if not well make sure the tank is empty, 4 bolts and 3 hoses and goes down, remember to disconect the ground wire.

Re: Fuel sending unit
all you have to do is unhook the line as the switching thing and then just drop the tank. but be for you do plug the lines so nothing get in it. if its empty it takes like 10 15 min to do the job as long as the bolts comes out easy.
