New Paint, Now to buy rims
well truck is in the paint booth finally and had a bad problem with the paint and the "matte clear" mixing together and it didn't come out the way i wanted it to when it got painted it was really hot then a few hours later a storm came through so the guy who is painting it for me said he thinks it was the humidity. so he is in process of wet sanding it and seeing if it he can't fix it. Its driving me crazy. Im using John Deere Blitz black with 8:1:1 ratio just incase anybody was wondering.
But while thats getting fixed its time to get new wheels and tires. Im set on either Boss 338's (chrome) or Coys c-5 (black Chrome) I just need help on wheel sizes as well as tire sizes. the truck is lowered 2/4 and wanting to do a staggered look with 18x8 up front and 20x10 on back. Maybe somebody already has this set up and can show pics even with different rims. However i don't know which route to go with tire sizes. any suggestion and or opinions would be great help. here is a pic of the truck in paint booth with the blitz black with the messed up matte clear, hoping to get that fixed by weekend. and here is the truck before any body work.

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
do a 4/5 drop (3inch spindles. one coil cut off stock coilsprings. and flip kit) with chrome coys would look killer!

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
thanks randy.
3r!c84 - i do want to lower it more but i don't want to cut anything, everything on the frame has been completely re-done and is brand new. As it is now it rides better than my daily driver. Maxxxy - Ive never seen those wheels i will have to look into them. Thanks for the suggestions so far tho anything is always a option. I just don't want to spend the money and a week later see another truck with rims i wish i would have gotten.

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
are you sure the blitz black (a oil based enamel) is compatable with the clear being used?

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
No I'm not certain clear can go with the Blotz Black, I made post asking about using the clear with it on the site and nobody had done it so I figured I would just try it.
I agree on the Boss 338's and I'm leaning more to the Coys because of the Black chrome, I think it would look sick with the semi gloss black Posted via Mobile Device

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
Are you set on going with 18s and 20s? With such a mild drop the 18's are going to look rather small on front. I suggest 20's all around and stagger your tire height.

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
No I'm not set on staggered wheels. I have thought about 20x8 up front and 20x10 in rear. I have 15x10 on front and back now and with as much tire as I have now the front rubs when I make sharp turns. I def think if I go same size all around I would do 20's tho. All this makes wish I would have dropped it a little more.

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
Quote:
the oil enamels of old were real bad about wrinkling under any kind of catalized product, laquer primer, activated 2k primer, etc. If the enamel was in decent shape and not peeling - i used to use an RM brand waterborne primer to bridge it in jambs and such to avoid complete stripping. Thus the issue with JDBB.... probably a fine product, but still an oil based enamel and not very compatable with any future upgrade to paint, shiney or otherwise! |

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
ok this may sound like a stupid question, but someone please help me with the "backspacing" on a wheel. the Coys i want offer 4 3/4 ", 5 1/4" inch on the 20x8.5 and 5", 5 1/2" inch on the 20x10 wheels. do i need a particular one or is it all preference and if so what does it change? and what size tire do you prefer to run with the drop i have now with this set up that i mentioned above with the Coys.
thanks in advance Colton

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
4 3/4" on the front will work and definitely 5.5" in the rear. As far as tires I am running these on my staggered 18x8's and 20x10's: 245/45zr18's and 305/40zr20's Goodyear Eagle F1's

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
Don't clear over tha oil based paint, hot rod flats would be the choice for a base / clear set up .or just use a flattened clear coat over any color base ( the base coats are flat until the clear goes on that's what makes it shine unless it's a single stage enamel).

Re: New Paint, Now to buy rims
Plenty of them, although mine is a stepside and sits quite a bit lower than yours but that just means that you shouldn't have any issues at all.
