Heater Blend Door Plastic Clip
The plastic clip on the vent door (I think) keeps breaking. I have put 4 in the last year. I have robbed them out of the trucks at the wrecker cause I knew it was a problem. Does anyone have a GM part Number I can maybe search out or does anyone make a metal one? aluminum maybe? I checked the door for binding and its fine. I'm pretty sure the used ones I got were just as brittle as they can be from all the heat that gets to them over the years. Does anyone have a permanent fix?

Re: Heater Blend Door Plastic Clip
Replacing a broken clip with another old clip may still give you a clip prone to breaking due to the brittleness you mentioned. At the rate your are using them, why not just buy several new ones from Classic Parts? Page 90 of their catalog, p/n 68-248, "Air Recirculating Valve Link Rod." $1.95 ea + shipping.

Re: Heater Blend Door Plastic Clip
I think this is what's wrong with my '83. Is this thing hard to get to/replace?

Re: Heater Blend Door Plastic Clip
I had to replace the one in the SuperSub©. It's was a bee-yotch to get that little pin out. Ended up going caveman on it and ripping the old clip apart with a pair or linemans and cutting the pin off with a Dremel. Replaced it with a cotter pin to save my sanity the next time I have to replace it.
I also ended up buying a few extra clips to toss in the junk drawer of my rollaway. They were only a few bucks from the Dealer. |
