230 inline 6 i think

first off i'm very new to the truck scene. and i dont know to much about theses inline 6 engines. so here goes.
my truck is a 66 c-10 with a 3 sp on the column how do i tell what eng i have.

also what kind of engine mods can be done to theses engines and who do you guys recomend for these eng mods.

Welcome. If it is the original engine, it is probably the 250. The 250 and 230 shared the same block (longer stroke crank for the 250). The L6 responds well to the intake and exhaust upgrades that Clifford Performance and Langdons offer.

You could also have the 292. The easiest way to ID a 292 is by the offset motor mounts. The passenger side will be farther forward, and located between the fuel pump and the distributor on the engine.

Yeah also another huge giveaway.

Had a 216 in my '49 when I first bought it. Found a 292 and put that between the rails, they are great motors.

As for price, it ran me sub $500. It came out of a 1970 Chevy. Just an idea of a price in Northeastern NY

Without dropping the oil pan or pulling the head, you'll need to do a displacement check.

ok thxs for the info. are there any good inline 6 engine shops that are good at makeing
some good horsepower with these engines i can of like the unique factor with the 6 cyl.

i 'm use to the high horse power sbc but really want to do something with a 6.

The biggest and most cost effective power gains will come from an upgrade to the intake (4 bbl) with a 4bbl carb, and exhaust that are easy to do yourself. After that, the increases in HP are small and come at a steep price with a lot of machining to raise the RPM range...I used to drag race my L6 in the '80s and spent twice as much money on it to run in the 13s as I did building my SBC to run mid-9s. Check out the links I provided earlier for those DIY intake/exhaust upgrades.

thanks for the reply i think i might do the int and exh and maybe some head work for this year and next.
then when its time for a different engins in my drag car i'll put my old drag engine in my truck i'll just need to freshen it up and remove the turbo.

hers's a couple of pics of the engine in my race car that will eventally go in my truck minus the turbo.
it's s.b.c 393 cui with a 101 mm turbo n/a the engine made 626 h.p and 600 lbs of turque with the turbo on it and 30 lbs of boost it made 1370 hp at the tire's on the chasie dyno.
