Another Fan Shroud Thread
So I've got a V8 in the V8 position and I'm looking for a fan shroud for my 57 TF. Most of the vendors have them but they seem to be set up for a V8 in the 6 position. I've read most of the threads here but I don't think it applies to original V8 trucks so after some inspiration from various member's threads who have made their own, I decided to give it a shot. Bought some resin and some t-shirt material so I'm into this for about 45 bux now.
First I needed to make a circle cutting jig for my router. Scrap piece of wood, longer screws for the base of the router and I measured 9 inches from the outside of the bit to the middle of the wood. Here it is mounted to the router and the 18 inch circle it cut for me: Then I made a frame based on the measurements I took of where I want the shroud to sit, angle and depth along with mounting flanges. Covered up the frame with wax paper and the t-shirt material and held it on there with push pins. Not sure what you could use (spray adhesive?) but the pins seemed to do the trick. The key is that it has to be a temp. hold. I apologize for the lack of step by step pictures but I was a one man show today. Here are the pics: then removing the frame after the 2 coats of resin have dried. Here I am trimming out all the extra material and pieces of wax paper. Next week I will lay some mesh soaked in resin to the inside to harden it up and begin to sand it down on the outside. Felt good to make something for myself.
