Re: Parts swap?
It is too broad of a question. Like all cars there are very subtle differences between some years with some parts. Some parts are the same on all years.

Re: Parts swap?
Most parts do swap but as noted there are a few excpetions.
The biggest problems newby's have is telling the difference between big trucks and small (the 1.5 ton and heavier have different parts like larger fenders openings, different running gear, etc). |

Re: Parts swap?
I'm not sure my truck has one original 48 part on it. Maybe the left front fender was original to the truck that I bought for 75.00 in 1973.
The grill is made up of pieces of five grills that I collected to make one good one. The hood was the best of several I had. The rear fenders and running boards came from a guy in Waco Texas who was selling them and some other pieces and he gave me the deal of a lifetime when I showed up in the 48 to pick up the parts. He had sold the truck with a V8 in it to some high school kid and the kid stacked cement blocks in the back and tried to do a wheelie with the truck and bent the frame and the kids dad put so much pressure on him he bought it back and scrapped it out. The kid claimed that the frame just broke and his dad believed him but there were witnesses. The frame is out of a 54 because the original frame ended up with a big twist in it and the truck never sat right. There are actually three different doors on the pickups. 47/50 51 by it's self and 52/53 and that is usually the biggest year model interchange problem guys run into. Somewhere along the line the oil pressure gauge changed from 30 lbs to 60 lbs. There are a number of others but here's one chronicle on AD truck changes. http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/his..._segment5.html |

Re: Parts swap?
Whats the differences between the doors? I know the older ones had the single window.. but what else? You listed 51 by itself.. thats what I have so it peaked my interest. Haha

Re: Parts swap?
Ok thanks. Not to take over this thread with questions.. but is it possible to just order glass and window track parts to convert mine back to the one piece older style windows? Cutting and welding is no problem for me.. but just didnt know if the entire opening is completely different shape or something crazy.

Re: Parts swap?
For one thing, if your dead set on going to a one piece window, try selling your doors. They're rare and worth few bucks more to someone with a 51 looking to stay original or just to have that look!
You can pickup a pair of earlier doors easy enough to have the one piece look or consider a trade to get a real nice set if yours have some rust? Good Luck. |

Re: Parts swap?
I need new glass and trim.. but the door sheet metal is perfect on these things, no rust anywhere. I'd have no problems trading other then its going to be very hard to keep my existing patina if I were to swap doors.
