where did you mount your mufflers?
I'm working on a 55' step side and wondering where everyone mounted their mufflers. I'm thinking under the cab, but should I be concerned with excess heat/noise in the cab? Any and all suggestions welcome. thanks

Re: where did you mount your mufflers?
If you get a quiet enough muffler and insulate the floor well it's not a problem. I got the HUGE Dynomax super turbos (for RV's) on the 56 and it's super quiet even though they are under the cab. When I floor it I can hear my intake louder than the exhaust. My 08 hemi ram has a magnaflow and it sounds awesome but gets annoying with the volume after a bit. Just depends on what you want.

Re: where did you mount your mufflers?
With a baffeled muffler it doesn't matter as much but with one that has packing of any kind, the farther back in the system, the longer the muffler lasts. It runs cooler. It's easy enough to get most if not all of the muffler under the bed area, so why not go there? The only down side I can see is if you want to exit the exhaust pipes in front of the rear tires. I had to tilt the mufflers a little to get frame and drive shaft clearance, but I didn't want any of my exhaust sticking below the frame rails if possible and I ran the exhaust pipes to the rear for comfortable cruising.

I mounted the dual 29" thrush glass packs behind the cab..Too much noise so I had the muffler guys put on tail pipes and a second set of dual glass packs (18") at the rear. It sounds great now and probably will be better as the glass burns out.
