BAD vibrations
I put new tires on my truck, replaced body mounts, and raised my body 2''. Now I have a bad vibration from 50 t0 55 mph. My first thought was out of balance front tires, so I had them balanced today and there was no change.I got no slack or slop in my front end. Does anybody have any suggestions what to check next? any help wood be nice..thanks Mr.Magoo

Re: BAD vibrations
i wouldnt think so as it just makes the steering tighter and they did come without them but im not an expert, i would check your ball joints, tie rods, u joints on your driveshaft
i had a truck that shook at a certain speed and it was my u joint on my driveshaft but i would check it all if i was you |

Re: BAD vibrations
check the center carrier also. Are your tires 1st or 2nd quality.
The reason I asked, I have been told a lot of tire stores sell 2nds instead of the better quality. But it very well could be either a u joint or carrier bearing bad. Jason |

Re: BAD vibrations
Get up to 60-65, put it in neutral and coast down through the mph range where it vibrates. If it still vibrates in neutral with the engine idling, it's a driveline/wheel problem, if not, it's engine related.
I'm having the same type of problem right now, just showed up out of the blue. Between 50-55 the whole cab makes a deep hum, but it's fine when coasting in neutral. I'm going to take a hard look at the motor mounts this morning. Any other ideas? |

Re: BAD vibrations
Sway bar bushings will not cause vibration.
50-55 MPH most likely is not the tires/wheels, but you said you got new tires and yet only had the fronts re-checked? Did the rear tires not get replaced? Why didn't you check the balance on the rears? Do you feel the vibration mostly on the steering wheel or the seat? When you feel it, does it change any when turning, accelerating, or decellerating?

Re: BAD vibrations
Very good feedback from everyone. All 4 tires were replaced, I just had the front rebaleced cause I wanted to find out which it was. I will rotate front to rear and see if it changes. As far as the drive shaft that may also be a possibility. It is a swb so it doesnt have a swing bearing if that what you were refering to. I think I will do the 65mph and coast down and see does it vibrate. thanks again for all the good feedback. Mr.Magoo

Re: BAD vibrations
no idea iv never had one balanced before, when you take out the drive shaft i would check the (blonde moment cant remember name of part) spot where the drive shaft attaches to the rear end, the spot where the u joint sits in the rear dif could be worn out from all the vibrating
by the sounds of it you havent driven it much with it doing that so it should be ok but id check just in case |

Re: BAD vibrations
Replace the front and the rear ujoints and you should be fine. If it didn't vibrate before the ujoint went bad why would you rebalance it?

Re: BAD vibrations
If you can feel it in the steering wheel its in the front. If you can only feel it in your seat its in the back. I can't see how a body lift would cause the problem at all. Had you changed the pinion angle I would look at driveline but you didn't. Concentrate on the back tires. It may be an imbalance or a bad tire. Since you can drive in and out of the vibration I would look at rear tire imbalance first.

Re: BAD vibrations
id worry about those u joints first since you mentioned theres alot of slack they obviously need to be replaced anyways, take it for a drive after if its still doing it then get the back tires rebalanced

Re: BAD vibrations
I think my plan now is to repace the ujoints and drive it to work,(Wal-Mart). If it still vibrates I will have the guys in TLE balance the rear tires and go from there. Thnx for the advice.

Re: BAD vibrations
I started out in TLE, loved working on vehicles..I recently moved up to being an APA ,walking the floor busting shoplifters is the best job I ever had. Now I dont go home smelling of motor oil and rubber..
