GMC grill
How do you get rust from a grill. Sand, polish, rechrome, paint, or buy after market.

All of the above.
To be more specific, it all depends on how bad the rust is. If it can be sanded smooth or media blasted and repainted that would be a cheaper option. I checked into chroming mine (painted now) and found out it was going to cost about the same as buying a new chrome one so it was basically a toss up.

new ones run upwards of 400 not shipped. Depends on the level of detail you want out of your finished product. I painted mine til I can convince the wife to part ways with half a house payment!

If you have a good OEM, I'd rechrome it if the chrome shop says they can do it justice. I have a repop, and I am still going to rechrome it because the chrome on it is just o.k. It also did not fit near as nice as the original.
By the way, a 'chrome' shop which will go unnamed ruined the original. Chrome shops are not created equal, so make sure you get reliable recommendations. Posted via Mobile Device |

I use 00 steel wool....lots of "elbow grease" and follow up with 3M finishing compound using small buffing wheel on a variable speed drill.
Unless the rust has began to rot thru....I can get a "like new" finish.....even the pits of the rust origination can be hard to see once done. |
