Looking for opinions...
I recently bought an '84 shortbed and I'm having a hard time deciding what wheels to run. I thought I wanted to run the factory rallies, but then I got to thinking the Weld Prostars that are on it aren't so bad. Then I got to thinking that a set of 15" Boyds would make a pretty cool "period correct" looking truck.
Any suggestions? The shortbed on the Prostars: The rallies I bought: I think I really want to run a set of Boyds, but I don't know... |

Re: Looking for opinions...
If you're wanting a "cruiser" look, go for the rallies.
If you're wanting more of a "hot rod" look, go for the Welds... personally I like the Welds a LOT better.

I like the prostars. I'm not that fond of the look of the rally wheels

Re: Looking for opinions...
I vote the Welds or Boyds! Something 5 spoke always looks good to me on them. These trucks always look good with a "hot rod" or "old school" wheel IMO. But the rallies are cool too if thats what you like.

Yeah. I put the rallies up on CraigsList this morning. Wish I would have thought this through before I bought them :/

Re: Looking for opinions...
What's the "right" backspacing for these trucks? 3.5"-4", something like that?

Re: Looking for opinions...
Front BS w/a 7" wheel 3.75-4.25".
Rear BS w/a 8" wheel = 4" Rear BS w/a 10" wheel = 5"

Re: Looking for opinions...
Ah, crap. I found these...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/c...p?product=6593 ...and was working a deal, but he said the 7"ers had 4.5" of BS and the 8"ers had 6.25" of BS. |

Re: Looking for opinions...
What about 8.5" wheel up front? Found another set of 8.5' and 10's.

Re: Looking for opinions...
Just looking at the pics,... those back wheels look more than 1" wider compared to the front wheels.
Plus he won't ship and he's in Illinois.

He was willing to ship after all. And yeah, they do seem wider.

Re: Looking for opinions...
8.5's w/6.25" BS up front would require significant trimming of the a-arm to the point of being a safety issue. Again.... not worth it.

Re: Looking for opinions...
They were the wrong bolt spacing anyway. Who would've thought that finding a set of 15" Boyds would be such a hassle? These things were E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E 15 years ago. LOL!
Got a call in on these. Not much info in the ad. Hopefully the guy knows what he's got. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/3165887724.html |

Re: Looking for opinions...
Ok since you asked for opinions... I personally think the Boyd's look "dated" rather than "retro". The Welds have a very timeless drag race look that says "muscle-truck". The rallies aren't bad either but the Welds have my vote.

Re: Looking for opinions...
Yeah? The days of static dropped Chevy’s on 15” Boyds was a great time in my life. Guess I’m just trying to bring a little of that back.

I don't generally get on the net and slag other people's stuff if it's not my bag. But I figured since you were looking for some of you other square loving peers to sound on the issue, I'd oblige. It's really overall a matter of personal preference. I think its a really cool looking truck as it sits and if you're fired up on the Boyd's, go for it. Heck I don't sweat people going on about how "over" flat black is. My chalky ol' dually will get another pass of rustoleum when it's time, because I dig it. If I see any wheels kicking around down here, I'll shoot you a pm. Good luck and enjoy it! Posted via Mobile Device
